Shopping list
375 grams flour
225 gram butter (room temperature)
225g caster sugar
1 free-range egg (room temperature)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
raspberry or another red jam
icing sugar, to dust
Preparation
1. Put all the ingredients together in a bowl and kneaded them well until you have a smooth dough.
2. Wrap the dough in plastic cling wrap and +/- 1 hour in the refrigerator.
3. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Roll the dough until it's 1/2 cm thick and cut out hearts.
Cut out of half the hearts smaller hearts so it leaves a hole.
Place the cookies on a baking tray covered in waxed paper.
Slide the baking tray into the oven.
Bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes, let them cool on a wire rack.
Spread generously rasberry jam on the whole cookies.
Sieve icing sugar over the 'open' cookies and press them on the jam.
We make a nice fresh brew to go with these beautiful biscuits!
We know know for sure we won't be eating these biscuits only on Valentine's Day ;D
