A classic English trifle

A festive pudding, for Christmas!

Shoping list 
500g red fruit (frozen)
50g caster sugar
500ml real apple juice
5 sheets of gelatine
1 vanilla cake
500ml custard
250g mascarpone
300ml double cream
One bar of white chocolate

This 'pudding' is extremely tasty if you like fresh red fruit and a not too sweet dessert. This is how you make this delicious trifle for 8-10 persons. Watch out! This is an overnight recipe, so start a day early!

How to make a Christmas Trifle

Put a pan on low, add fruit and sugar. Let it simmer until the juice becomes syrup.

Spoon half the fruit in a freezer box, let it cool and put it in the refrigerator.
 

Measure the correct amount of apple juice and add it to the fruits in the pan.

Soak the gelatin leafs in cold water until they're soft, then drain the gelatin.

Add them to the fruit, stir until it's dissolved and pour the fruit mixture in a bowl.

Cool the fruit. Put it in the refrigerator until morning, it will be wobbly but firm.

Take a big glass bowl for the trifle so you can later on see the lovely layers.

Cover the bottom of the dish with slices of cake.

Stir the gelatin fruit and scoop a layer of it onto the cake.

Spoon on some fruit in syrup, from the box in the refrigerator.

The bowl is already half full, a larger bowl would be better.

Pour the custard into a mixing bowl and add the mascarpone.

Whisk it together lightly and lay it gently on the fruit.

Remember it have to be beautiful layers, so smoothen the top.

Beat the cream with or without extra sugar, as you like it.

Whisk the cream not too stiff but until you see soft peaks.

Spread the cream from the outside in on the trifle.

Grate white chocolate on top. Pretty, it looks like snow!
