For the pastry
1 roll of fresh puff pastry
2 tablespoons caster sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the filling
2 red/pink apples
2 tablespoons caster sugar
15 ml maple syrup (optioneel)
We are making very cute, tasty apple pastries today. With ready-made puff pastry and fresh apples we are done in no time. We add a little sugar and cinnamon to make them nice and sweet and the roses are also beautiful to look at!
How to make apple roses
Wash and dry the apples thoroughly
Halve, core and cut the apples into very thin slices.
Place them in a bowl and add the 2 tablespoons sugar.
Place the apples in a sieve, toss and let it drain.
Place the apples for 10 minutes in the fridge.
Roll out the puff pastry, cut strips of 5cm.
Stir sugar and cinnamon until combined.
Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the dough.
Place the spple slices overlapping on the dough.
Fold the underside up and roll thr strips from left to right.
Press the end tight on with a little drop of water.
Place the roses in the greased cupcake tin.
Preheat the oven to 200°C
Place the roses in the fridge for now, until the oven is on temperature.
Put the tin in the oven.and bake the roses in 20-25 minutes golden.
Let cool 10 minutes in the tin and then completely on a wire rack.
Optional: melt the tablespoon maple syrup on low heat and brush it on top of the roses, for a pretty shine
Serve the roses plain, with tea or coffee.
Or serve the pastry roses with a scoop of ice cream.
