Close to Rotterdam you will find 1 of our dearest outings: Zorgboerderij De Buytenhof. We like to go there in the autumn holidays but also in the other seasons. On this Autumn morning it is lovely and fresh outside and still very quiet at De Buytenhof. So lovely to pick your own apples and / or pears with the kids this early in the morning! You can walk around the farm carefree wherever you want and see everything there is to see. And that's a lot!
Today the pears are all picked but that is no problem for us because we came especially for the apple picking, after this activity we want to have a relaxed al fresco lunch and then stroll around the whole farm with the kids. We visit the woolly pigs, we look at the large crates with apples that have been picked with the plucking machine and for our littlest one we go see what he finds the most beautiful, the tractors!
Meanwhile the older kids can make apple sauce themselves (under supervision), this is also a favorite Autumn activity because all places are quickly occupied. The picking garden with flowers is unfortunately closed in the Fall, but in the spring we can pick to our hearts content again. Then you can also take part in the workshops flower aranging. In the summer there are raspberries, strawberries and cherries to pick and in the winter you can do a workshop Italian cooking and for the kids fires are lit, on which you can roast marsmellows.
Finally, we visit the farm shop because they sell the tastiest juices, but also delicious potatoes & vegetables and fresh cheese. We also buy a small wooden Buytenhof box, for our apples. Then it's time to go home. Now it is no longer quiet on the farm, the playground is very busy and there is a long queue at the apple baskets but we had a wonderful day today and tomorrow we bake apple pie! ;)
