500g strong white flour
2 teaspoons sea salt
1 sachet dried yeast (7g)
300ml water
45ml olive oil
extra flour, to dust
To bake a delicious bread at home you do not need much. Until recently we used a hand mixer (now a simple food processor) and a conventional oven. You do not need a bread maker, not even a pan. But you need patience!
How to bake a simple white bread
Put the flour in the mixing bowl and add the salt.
Add the dried yeast to the mixing bowl as well .
Stir all ingredients together until they are combined.
Make a well in the centre and pour in the water.
Add the olive oil to the well too.
Mix until it hass become a coarse dough.
Put the dough on a flour dusted baking mat.
Knead the dough quickly but firmly with both hands until it feels smooth and supple. Let it prove at room temperature.
Grease a clean bowl.
Place the dough in it and put it aside.
After 1 hour the dough has doubled.
Knock the dough back quickly.
Form a round loaf of the dough. Place it on waxed paper on the baking tray and let it prove another hour. Preheat the oven in the last 10 minutes at 200 degrees (gas oven) or 220 degrees (circulation oven).
Slash the bread with a sharp knife.
Sprinkle some flour on the bread.
Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes.
If you tap the bottom of the bread it should sound hollow.
Let the bread cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!
