How to make Gran's apple sauce
Peel and core the apples then cut them in eight pieces.
Place apples and cinnamon in a pan with the water.
Bring the water to the boil, softly boil the apples 15 min.
Remove the cinnamon stick then rub the apples through a sieve.
Golden Reinets are mostly very big apples. Count 1 flat tablespoon sugar for each big apple, but taste before adding the last spoons. Early in the season the apples are a little more tangy then later on. To sweet is not to everyone's taste and you can add sugar but you can not take it out, Grandma used to say.
Stir sugar and cinnamon powder into the hot apple sauce until dissolved.
Pour the apple sauce into sterilized jars or freezer containers.
Allow the apple sauce to cool befor storing it into fridge or freezer.
Store unopened jars in a cool, dark place. Once opened apple sauce must be kept in the refrigerator.
