What do you need?
a piece of white cotton
a measuring tape
a pair of scissors
white yarn
sewing machine or a needle
coloured fabric
matching yarn
embroidery thread
embroidery needle
pins
We have all kinds of fun leftover fabric, where can we use it for? Good idea for the summer, we make bean bags out of it! The little monsters use them a lot at school, to do math with and to practice all kinds of other things. But also to play with.
In the summer vacation you can happily play outside with the bean bags. Throw them over or chalk a points system with sidewalk chalk outside and quickly see who has the most points and wins. Now that we don't have any beans in the cupboard, we fill the bags with rice, that works fine too!
How to make bean bags
Cut white cotton into pieces of 10x20cm.
Fold in half and pin the sides together.
Sew both the sides closed.
Zigzag both sides if you like.
We make 6 bean bags to start with.
Cut the coloured bags 12x24cm.
Fill the white bags with rice.
Weigh the rice for an even amount.
Pin and sew the bags closed.
Draw seams on the bags with the trick marker.
Or pin the bags together, whatever you prefer.
Sew the coloured bags as well and leave one side open to fill
Place the filling in the bag.
Fold the open side inward.
Sew the top side neatly closed by hand.
Because the little monsters will be throwing the beanbags we sew an extra sturdy border of blanket stitches, with embroidery yarn
We choose contrasting colours of yarn because it looks fun.
The mini-monsters like the bean bags very much!
But we cannot play outside with them yet ... it just started to rain again today!
