For the puff pastry bottoms
plain flour, to sprinkle
1 pack of ready-made butter puff pastry
1 free-range organic egg, beaten
For the prosciutto topping
1 onion, sliced in very thin rings
sea salt
150 ml crème frache
100g prosciutto, shredded
splash of olive oil
fresh basil (optional)
After Christmas and just before New Years Eve is a good time to check the freezer. Things that you really have to eat befor they go off, or that you just want to get out of the way of. We find leftovers of puff pastry that we don't have a plan for yet, but that will come in handy with New Year's Eve. We make delicious pizza snacks! (Don't have any leftovers? Do buy a roll of puff pastry, these snacks are also delicious on the weekend! ;))
How to make pizza snacks with leftover puff pastry
Defrost the puff pastry and sprinkle your workspace with flour
Roll out the pastry quickly.
Use a pizza wheel to cut squares.
Cut thin onion rings.
Sprinkle thickly with sea salt.
Beat the egg.
Brush it on the puff pastry.
Rinse the onions thoroughly.
Drain the onions well on kitchen paper.
Place a coffee spoon crème fraiche on the dough.
Place some onions rings on top of the crème fraiche.
Place a strip of rolled up prosciutto on top.
Bake the pizza bites in 15 minutes golden.
Allow the bites to cool slightly on the baking tray.
Place the bites on a wire rack and sprinkle with olive oil.
Sprinkle some shredded basil leaves on top.
Now the best moment arrives, relax and taste!
