What do you need?
Beeswax, brown, green and white
a knife or small sciccors
a bead
a bell
a wooden skewer
Today is Candlemas and on our free Wednesday afternoon we make beautiful snowdrops. We make it from beeswax but of course it can also be from another type of clay, if you don't have beeswax. We like beeswax so much to work with the monsters because it doesn't contain any chemicals. That is better for all children but especially for the younger ones, who like to put their fingers in their mouths.
Another advantage of using beeswax for modelling is that you can display your artwork for as long as you like. but still warm it in your hands and knead it to make something completely different. Also the colours of Stockmar beeswax are very beautiful and you can also mix those colours. Just watch the video above, with more fun ideas.
How to make a Snowdrop
Cut off a piece of brown and warm it in your hands.
When the beeswax has softened you shape an egg.
Press the underside flat so it can stand up straight.
Use the wooden skewer to poke a hole into the top of the egg, which is actually a flower bulb :))
Cut of a piece of green wax.
Warm. knead and roll it into a stem.
Bend the top round.
Cut off 2 more pieces.
Shape them into 2 leaves.
Press the leaves onto the stem.
Warm and knead white into a ball.
Flatten the ball.
Fold the wax around the bead.
Remove the bead.
Cut out the petals.
Put the cut out pieces of beeswax back in the box, so you can use them again later
Press the bell into the flower and then press it all together.
We light a candle and look how beautiful it is!
We look forward to enjoy some pancakes later, have a wonderful Candlemas!
