Today we chose the picture book Hanukkah, Light Festival by Nancy Dickmann to read with the mini monsters. Books from the Prikbord series are widely used in kindergartens. The books have been translated into Dutch, so that's a plus too!
We think it's important to teach children at a young age that not everyone in the world is exactly the same. That there are people who look different from us, live in different countries, houses, eat different things and also have different celebrations. Although we are all the same in one thing, we are all human beings.
The book has no drawn illustrations but beautiful large colour photos. Photos that illustrate how Jewish children and their parents celebrate Hanukkah. Having a good time with grandpa, grandma and the rest of the family. Eating together, giving presents, singing songs and playing games. But also what the Festival of Lights entails, made understandable for toddlers.
Holidays and Festivals is a nice series of books of which you will find more parts on snazzie. Please don't forget to watch the fun youtube video at the top of the page, these kids had so much fun making it and it's in English and subtitled in Dutch!
