385g Zeeland flour
½ teaspoon sea salt
1.5 tablespoon gingerbread spices
90g soft butter, cubed
180g brown caster sugar
1 free-range organic egg
120g kitchen syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Icing
150g icing sugar
3 tablespoons milk + drops lemon juice
food coloring (optional)
There aren't that many recipes for celebrating Lucia's feast online and we've already made most of them. After all, we've been online with snazzie for a while now! But when we found this cute cookie cutter for the Swedish Dala horse, we were happy. We're going to bake Dala horse biscuits. You bake app. 30 horses with this recipe.
How to bake Swedish Dala horses
Mix the butter cubes with the soft brown sugar into a creamy mixture.
Add the egg to the mixture and mix until well combined.
Add the organic molasses also to the mixture in the mixing bowl.
Mix in the vanilla as well.
Stir flour with salt and spices.
Add the flour gradually.
Mix until a dough will form.
Sprinkle flour onto a your workspace
Knead the dough briefly by hand.
Shape the dough into a flat disc.
Wrap it and place it in the fridge.
Allow the dough to cool for 30 minutes
Roll out the dough to 0.5 cm.
Cut horses out of dough.
Place on baking paper on the tray.
Place the biscuits in the fridge.
Let the biscuits cool in the refrigerator for 1 hour, this will prevent the biscuits from spreading
Preheat the oven to 180°C and slide the baking tray into the middle of the oven
Bake the biscuits for 8-10 minutes.
Let the biscuits cool on the baking tray.
Stir all ingredients into a thick glaze.
Spoon the icing into a piping bag
Decorate the Dala horses with the icing.
Let the icing dry completely before you serve the biscuits.
