It is very busy in our garden! A colorful procession of insects passes us there and sometimes someone loses his way and flies inside. In addition to the insects, we also see many types of birds. In winter they come to eat and in spring they sometimes build nests in the hedge, the tree or the ivy. In the summer they sing to us, all of them together cozily, when it gets light around 5 am - half past five. A nice sound to wake up to but we prefer to hear it just a little bit later ;)
We sometimes see sparrows, often great- and blue tits, robins, starlings, blackbirds, chicks, ravens, wood pigeons and Dikkie Pigeon, who comes every day. He is very cheeky, he taps the sliding door when there is no food for the birds. He chases other birds away from the food, he is very bossy.
The mini-monsters call him Dikkie because he eats a lot! Here you see Dikkie (who is actually not fat even though he eats a lot) while we hang bird food in the tree. He gets closer and closer, then looks nasty at us because he wants to attack right away, not us but the bird food ;)
The food for the little birds we hang in the shrubs so Dikkie can not get to it, otherwise the little ones would get nothing.
We see snails everywhere, they hang from the tree trunks and in the shrubs, and we see them as crossing wildlife on the garden path, so watch carefully where you walk. The birds are happy with it so we also find some houses to let. ;) Nature has it's own way as even the mini-monsters know it very well already!
Photographing a snail or a spider is not that difficult, you can walk in calmly to get your phone. They also sit or hang still for the picture. We do like the snails with their houses, they are funny, but the slug! Brrr it takes only a few drops of rain to fall and whole families come out and about!
Actually we love them all, although we don't want to hug them all and we definitively want them to stay outside! But look how beautiful a spider is and how artfully it's web is made. And that a fly sometimes wants to be flown is not surprising, but we quickly put him / her outside again! Also the butterflies and those cute and funny bumble bees we prefer to see outside.
The snails and the spiders will stay put for the photo, they are not in a hurry. But for you to catch a bumblebee, a Lady bug or a beetle on camera, you have to be very quick! If you do not have your phone at hand and you have to go in, you can run but you will still be too late! So if you catch them on camera you are really lucky!
Sometimes a very long worm slides by, it is fascinating how they move, they slide forward by pulling their body in and out. The animal is on it's way to the grass, but due to the dry days of recent times it is not so easy for it to get into the dry ground, then we should give him a hand! We put it in the veggie patch, which has recently been dug and watered.
In the shed we also have a earthworm nursery now, an idea of Oerrr. We made the little ones member so we only have ourselves to blame. Oerrr comes up with interesting animal or insect facts and a craft every month, so of course the kids want to make the crafts.
You put in only one adult earthworm and soon there will be lots and lots of babies. And indeed, the first babies have arrived already, in just a couple of days! So more to tell you soon.
