On Earth Day we bring the difficult life of the bees to your attention bacause in the Netherlands are less and less bees so Oerrr is sounding the alarm. Other insects and the birds also need our help. Due to urbanization and climate change which is resulting in drought, they have difficulty surviving. The tiled gardens with lounge sets but without trees, shrubs and / or plants contribute to this problem as well.
That is why Natuurmonumenten has created Oerrr for children. The foundation would like to point out to kids the importance of a healthy flora and fauna. They do this in a fun way with free action packages, help with your school project and they give you tips on how to grow your own mini Garden with Wild Flowers or make an Insect Hotel, for example.
The Dutch foresters make an appeal on kids on Youtube, Face Book and Twitter: Join the Bee Brigade or the Wild Flower Brigade! Many schools are already participating. This way, the Netherlands becomes greener again and you help the bees that need wild flowers for pollen and nectar.
You also help the birds who eat insects (which are attracted by wild flowers) and the butterflies, because they lay their eggs on the leaves. And also very nice: Department Store De Bijenkorf (The Beehive) has anually in spring a sowing action to help the bees.
