On this beautiful autumn day we photograph how our garden looks in October. The sun is shining nicely, but in the afternoon it quickly gets cooler and the days are also a lot shorter already! But it's perfect for pottering around in the garden. There are now many chores that need to be done! We have to prune a few things, otherwise our backdoor will be overgrown!
We keep on harvesting, because the raspberry bush is still producing a record number of raspberries and the cucumbers are doing fine too! The tomato plants have been cleaned up, they were seriously withering and it is also getting too late in the year for them. But first we harvested the (very green) tomatoes. For two weeks they were placed in the windowsill, in a sunny spot, to change colour. And finally, they are red! We are super proud of our tomatoes, we display them on a pretty platter ;)))
October is a very busy time in the garden! The hedge really needs to be trimmed, but we also need to mow the grass. We must empty flower pots with withered plants, wash the empty pots & saucers in a soda bath and store them clean in the shed. We have to remove the weeds between the tiles and sweep up the dry fallen leaves.
The geraniums give us so much pleasure, they are such strong plants and exuberant bloomers!
Instead of Bumble Beeshere there are now a lot of Honey Bees flying busily around in the garden. The most beautiful cobwebs hang between the bushes. If you walk into the garden in the near future, without looking first, you will be walking with your face through a web. Brrr!
There is a pretty fly resting on a leaf, in the sun its shield has all the colours of the rainbow. Beautiful, even though we don't like flies all that much. How this gigantic snail got here, so high above the ground, is a mystery to us.
There are already many berries on the bushes, St John's Worth, Cotoneaster and Snowberry, they are all doing their best. The colour of the berries on the Cotoneaster are already changing slightly, it won't be long before they are a beautiful red / orange! Unfortunately, the Firethorn has been pruned incorrectly by a diligent person, it will probably have no berries this year.
The same goes for grapes, pruning vines is a precise job! So don't just cut away what you see, first consult a book or search online. Otherwise you will have - just like us - no grapes. The Columbine is now discolored and withered, but that's okay, next year it will appear again. The same thing will happen with the Knotweed but now it still looks beautiful. The Skimmia is just starting, very goodlooking! But that's it for us, for today.
We'd love to see you next month again, in the November garden!
