Because the Advent weeks are so special, we are making a beautiful craft today. There is a great craft blog on a webshop with beautiful toys and other beautiful children's items. We saw this craft there and we would like to pass their website on to you. For fantastic crafts and tips, visit Moon Blog Child
How to make the Waldorf Advent Calender
Paint the wooden dolls.
We use watercolour.
Allow the paint to dry.
Paint the heads of the dolls.
Let the paint dry again and in the meantime sew the gnome hats, you can download the pattern at the top of the page
Print the pattern and cut it out
Pin the patterns on the felt.
Cut the gnome hats out.
Choose the colours of embroidery yarn.
Embroider the edge with the blanket stitch.
Fold the gnome hat in half and sew it closed.
Tie of the yarn, stick it inwards and cut it off.
Check if the hat fits you gnome doll and stick it on (optional).
Set the dolls aside and allow the glue to dry completely. When the Advent gnomes are completely dry, rub them with beeswax for a pretty shine and colour retention. Let the wood absorb the wax and rub it with a soft cloth.
The four weeks of Advent each have their own significance in the creation of the earth
- crystals, stones and small fossils represent the first light of the stones
- small seeds or pods represent the first light of the plants
- a feather, shell or little bone represents the first light of the animals
- the gnome holding the candle represents the first light of humanity
Place each week a new Advent gnome, with some matching trinkets
Wishing you a beautiful advent month!
