Diwali - Festival of Light is a nice book to introduce our mini-monsters to one of the big celebrations in the world. There are children at school who do not celebrate Christmas but who do celebrate Diwali, Hanukkah or the Sugar Festival. We want our little ones to learn early on to runderstand every celebration, so that when they grow up they have respect for the culture of all people.
The books from the Holidays & Festavals series can be found in many school libraries, where they are often read. The text is kept simple. It is suitable for both preschoolers in group 1 and older primary school students. The beautiful colour photos in the book clearly illustrate how the festival is celebrated, what the background of it is and what the most important parts are.
In the back of the books is an explanatory list of perhaps unfamiliar words. For the little ones there is a page with 4 searches. Then there is an information page for parents and teachers. Also one with recommended literature and websites for those who want to know more about Diwali or Hinduism. All in all an interesting and educational book for children.
3 shining stars for Diwali - Festival of lights, from all young snazzie readers!
