3 free range organic eggs
100 ml milk
a pinch salt
optional: 1 teaspoon anise powder
8 beschuiten (rusks)
butter, for frying + extra
soft brown sugar
Today you will find this small breakfast recipe from Drenthe on snazzie: Farmer's waffles and the mini monsters love them! This in contrast to last weeks breakfast recipe, but well, that was an old-ladies cake ;)) This recipe is also very old, but it is still eaten a lot in Drenthe. Maybe because nowadays it is eaten with a variety of toppings, so there is something for everyone.
How to make Drentse Boerenwafels (Farmers waffles)
Place milk and eggs in a big bowl.
Beat it together with salt and anise.
Soak the beschuiten in it.
Soak them on both sides.
Put a frying pan on low heat.
Melt a knob of butter.
Fry the waffles brown on both sides.
Put them on plates immediately.
Serve the 'waffles' with various toppings.

Tomorrow we are in Overijssel, then we make a delicious Dutch tartlet with a funny name: Twentse Kozakken (Cosacks from Twente ???) ;))
