A bed on wheels by Vivian den Hollander radiates typical Dutch cosiness, as all her books for pre-schoolers do. That's probably why they're so popular. Yet this book differs slightly from her other books, because it is not just about a fun birthday party.
What if you have to go to the hospital just before your birthday due to an accident? Then the party with your friends, the visitors with lots of presents and your Birthday cake at home as well as the celebration at school will all be cancelled. That is of course a big disappointment for a pre-schooler!
The sweet and also very Dutch drawings by Dagmar Stam match the story really well. The story and the pictures are very recognizable to toddlers, and that's what they love, recognisability!
