Today we are making papier-mâché caves for the dinosaurs. We have already made trees and boulders that fit in very well in the landscape. Grandpa made a large box where all sorts of things can be played in, a piece of plywood with a wooden edge around it. That is also nice for the dinosaur caves, then everything stays together.
How to make papier-mâché caves
Inflate the balloons, 1 big and one small.
Stir the wallpaper paste as stated on the package.
Soak the paper strips in the wallpaper glue.
Wipe off excess glue between thumb and index finger.
Lay the strips around the balloon and rub them on.
Put the balloons in a warm spot.
Allow the paper mache to dry for 1 - 2 days and put the glue covered in a cool place
Rub wallpaper glue over the paper.
Crumple strips and stick them on.
Let the glue dry again.
Pop the balloons.
Cut the paper mache balls in half.
Allow the inside to dry as well.
Cut openings in the caves, the entrances.
Let the paint dry well between each addition.
Paint the in inside of the caves too.
Paint some dark and light accents onto the caves.
Allow the paint to dry completely again!
Put the caves together in the box, with the dinosaurs.
Add your self-crafted stones and trees as well.
Later on you can always craft more stones and trees if you like, it will be fun to play with!
