acryllic primer
acryllic paint
marker gold + black
different colours waxed paper
golden cardboard
glue stick
tea light
optional: some string
The Floating Water Lantern Festival is an ancient Asian-Buddhist tradition. Take a moment to watch the video at the top right, then you'll see how beautiful all those floating lanterns float in the dark. They welcome the gods and bring good luck.
How to make a floating lantern
Cut off the top of the carton.
Cut on the printed line to stay straight.
Draw a rectangle of 7x10 cm.
Cut the rectangle out of the carton.
Trace the cut out piece on the 3 others sides of the carton.
Cut them all out.
Paint the carton with primer.
Let the primer dry during the night.
Paint the carton in a nice color.
Decorate the dry paint with the gold felt tip.
Take some colored wax paper.
Draw a 9x12 cm rectangle on the golden cardboard.
The rectangle has to have an overlay.
Trace the rectangle 3 times and cut them out.
Trace the download on to the cardboard.
Cut out the drawing.
Glue some colored paper on the back.
Let the glue dry thoroughly.
Place the light in your lantern.
Just cheking if the lantern will float.
What a pretty sight in the twilight!
To save the water from pollution it's best to tie a string on your lantern.Then you can pull it back in after the candle is burnt out. This way you also can use your lantern again and again after all your hard work!
