Martinmas is almost here so it's high time to start working on our lantern! After consultation with the little monsters, the main character from a popular game was chosen: The Hollow Knight. He has to save the insect world from evil and he does his utmost to achieve that.
We do need an image because you can't just draw a Hollow Knight. Our little gamer can, but we would like an action picture fitting on the lantern. There are a lot of pictures on Google so we quickly print one out.
How to make a Hollow Knight Lantern
First make the 4 walls of your lantern
Transfer the working drawing onto the cardboard.
Cut out the traced parts of the lantern.
Cut the 4 indicated windows out of the lantern.
Cut out for pieces of kite paper to fit the windows.
How to make the bottom and the top of your lantern
Draw the bottom and top on the cardboard.
Cut out both bottom and top. score the glue strips.
Fold the glue strips of the bottom and stick them together.
Do the same with the top but cut out a square.
Clamp the bottom corners with clothes pegs and allow the glue to dry completely, set top and bottom aside for now
How to make the decorations, we choose the Hollow Knigt and stars but it can be anything you like
Print 2 silhouettes of the Hollow knight.
Cut them out, as neatly as you can.
Glue the silhouettes on purple kitepaper.
Allow the glue to dry well.
Trace 6 stars and cut them out of kite paper.
Stick the stars onto the purple kite paper.
Stick the purple kite paper behind the windows.
Glue the two Hollow Knights behind the 2 empty windows and let the glue dry again
Then you glue the lantern together
Stick the two parts together.
Put on clothes pegs and let the glue dry.
Glue the bottom into the lantern.
Cut a fitting piece of thick cardboard for the firmness of your lantern and place it on the bottom
Glue the top part into your lantern and poke holes in 2 corners.
Insert the wire through the holes, twist the ends, so it can't come out.
Maybe you still have (like we still have) a lantern stick from last year, otherwise stick a bent paperclip with some glue into a bamboo stick.
Have lots of fun at the Michaelmas Lantern Parade!
