A lantern for the 4th of July

What do you need?
16 wooden sticks
a napkin
pair of scissors
hobby glue
piece of photo cardboard
pencil and ruler
a candle or light
piece of string

In America, the 4th of July is a holiday, Americans celebrate the day the United States became independent from Great Britain. The holiday is called: Independence Day. Everyone has the day off on this holiday, whether you are working or at school, and it is a big celebration.

Parades are held, people picnic and barbeque and in the evening fireworks are set off. We are making a lantern today for this celebration, even though we are not Americans. But because we like to make one and it belongs with celebrations around the world..

How to make a 4th of July Lantern

Drip some glue on the sticks.

Glue the sticks into a square.

Make another 3 squares like this.

Allow the glue to dry well.

Cut a napkin in 4 parts and remove the white layers.

Spread some glue over the sticks that lay on top.

Press the napkins on the sticks and let the glue dry.

  • You could now glue the lantern together and place it on a table with the candle in inside
  • We prefer to make a cardboard base so you can also hang the lantern! (download the base's pattern)

Trace the base using a pencil on craft board.

Cut out the base and snip in the corners.

Glue the snipped corners and let dry well.

Glue the lantern around the base and let the glue dry.

When you glue the lantern with just 2 pieces at the same time you can use clothes pegs, to let the glue dry

Stick the corners of your 4th of July lantern together.

Place a real or a led tea light in your lantern and let it shine.
