Make a Lotus Flower

a Diwali craft

What do you need?
3 squares of coloured tissue paper, 16x16cm
1 square of green tissue paper, 16x16cm
a pencil
scissors
a LED or tea light
optional: a glue stick

Today we cut a simple but pretty Lotus flower from tissue paper squares that looks great at Diwali. It's going to be exactly the same as cutting snowflakes. You have to make sure that you cut from the right side, otherwise your flower will be in separate parts :)) Practise once with plain paper before you cut into your pretty paper. If you've got the hang of it, your lotus flower is ready in 5 minutes!

How to make a Lotus flower

Fold 1 square in half.

Fold this half into a square.

Fold the square diagonal.

And in a diagonal again.

We use the paperclip to show the folding clearly in the photograph, you do not have to use one

And diagonal again.

Cut off the protruding tip.

Fold it open and draw a line from the top.

Cut the flower along the drawn line

Fold in half and draw half an oval on the side.

Cut out the oval in the middle of the flower.

The flower is ready, fold it open.

We cut 2 more flowers in different shades of pink.

Fold green tissue paper in half a few times and cut out leaves.

Stack (or stick) the Lotus flowers and scatter the leaves around.

Put a tea light in the middle of the Lotus flower and see how beautiful it looks!
