A little Star lantern

for the Martinmas Parade

What do you need?
a sheet bright yellow cardboard
yellow kite paper
a pencil and ruler
a pair of scissors
a stanley knife
a large needle
a glue stick
hobby glue
a piece of string
a bambu stick and a paperclip
1 - 2 LED tea light(s)

To make this fun star lantern for a pre-schooler you don't need much. The list seems long but you probably already have most of those things at home ;) Glueing the lantern together is the hardest part. The rest is quick and easy with the template on size. It's a fun job and you have a happy child when the lantern is finished.

How to make the star lantern

Trace the template onto the cardboard and cut it out.

Place the tempplate on the cardboard, poke holes in the tips of the star.

Prick holes in the stars, in both parts of the lantern.

Connect the holes together with pencil stripes.

Cut out the pencil stars.

Score the glue strips of the lantern.

Cut out the connecting strip.

Score the strip of cardboard on the marked lines.

Glue the lantern like this later.

But first you trace the hexagon on kite paper.

Then you cut it out twice, to go on both sides.

Stick it behind the stars and let it dry.

Brush hobby glue on the bottom glue strip.

Press tightly and clip on 2 clothes pegs.

  • Let the hobby glue dry completely, it helps later on when glueing the remaining glue strips in place
  • You can only use clothes pegs on thesmall top corners!

Allow the glue to dry completely, when the lantern is fully assembled.

Prick 2 holes in the small strips on top and lace a string through.

Glue a bend paperclip in a bambu stick and you are ready for the Martinmas parade!
