A Feeder

for the garden birds

What do you need?
a pumpkin
a sharp knife
a spoon
scissors
rope
birdseed for garden birds

The whole year round we have a lot of birds in the garden, robins, great tits, finches, magpies and jackdaws. to name a few. The mini monsters really enjoy watching them stomp a worm out of the ground or search the bushes for insects (and so do we). Due to urbanization and less green gardens, it is not so easy for birds to find food, there is not enough ground and greenery in which they can look for food.

That is why the Vogelbescherming (Dutch Bird Protection) asks to feed the outdoor birds all year round. Then they don't have to search for food in the trash because that is very unhealthy for birds. We're making a large pumpkin bird feeder today, on Dierendag (Animal Day). One where they can sit on with several birds at the same time and enjoy a delicious, healthy bird meal ;))

Cut the top of the pumpkin.

Cut all around along the edge.

Scoop out the pulp and pits.

Scoop the pumpkin completely empty.

Store the flesh in the refrigerator.

Drill 3 holes in the pumpkin

Tie string through the holes.

Fill the pumpkin with birdseed for garden birds.

Hang the bird feeder in your garden and wait for the birds!

Happy Autumn!
