For the last weekend of the autumn holidays we booked a B&B mini-house in Ouddorp, on the border of Zeeland. The weather is beautiful on the Friday we go and we are expected in Ouddorp in the afternoon. But our little monsters start bouncing around the house really early, it's so exciting!
What do we take with us? Cuddly toys? Duh! But also Lego, books, their own water bottles, and the iPad of course. Is there still room for the pajamas and clean clothes? Good thing we're not going for a week! ;))
It is a beautiful road trip over the Haringvliet to Ouddorp and it goes really fast when you come from Rotterdam.
When we arrive at our destination, the sun shines pleasantly through the trees. We go through a garden door to the mini house and it is beautiful! Completely surrounded by greenery, more garden than we think at first glance. We'll find out later.
We are going to explore the village first! See what there is and where we are going to eat tonight. There is a large supermarket in the village and many nice restaurants. But it is already very clear, the mini's don't want to eat out. They like the house so much, they want to eat 'at home'. Eat what? Pancakes!! We ask in the Pancake House if we can have pancakes to go and we can, everyone happy!
In the house there are many funny games to play, for everyone and many books. We can also play computer games for a while, but then it's bedtime! The monsters go in the 'rain' shower, brush their teeth and put on pajamas. Then it's bedtime.
But early next morning we get two surprises: it's raining cats and dogs and around 9.30 you find a lovely breakfast, newspaper included, outside your door!
But we're not bored! We will explore the garden with raincoats and wellies on. We go to collect chestnuts, there are loads of them. In the garden there is play equipment with swings and a large trampoline. And another surprise, a good one this time, there are very large, beautifully speckled chickens in the garden.
Then we first do some shopping in the village and Comodo Dragon can come. The other two soft toys wait, at the window. We choose some cute souvenirs, also for those staying at home. We send cards to the grandparents and we order dinner for tonight. Then everyone is so wet and cold, we go back to the house. We first turn on the heater, because it is cold and the wet clothes need to dry. Then we eat a sandwich.
For the afternoon there is a lot of fun things to do in the area. Even when it rains and the kids get to choose. You can go to A seal, the seal sanctuary in Stellendam. Or we can visit Deltapark Neeltje Jans. We are very close to it and it is THE theme park of Zeeland. They have a very large, beautiful aquarium with sharks, you are close to the seals and there are lots of other things to see and do. But the house with the games is much more fun, the monsters say. Thank you but they don't have to go :o
When we wake up on our last day the weather is beautiful! But today we are going home, so first unpack our breakfast (which is served on our doorstep at half past eight) and eat a delicious meal. We write in the Bed&Broodje-journal as a thank you for a wonderful weekend and the kids draw a big fish for our lovely hosts! Then pack up and head to the beach, because we haven't seen that yet!
The beaches of Ouddorp are internationally famous. They are very large and vast and our North Sea is so beautiful! But first a brisk walk through the dunes, then plow a long way through the sand and then you are at the waterfront. We are speechless, so beautiful is the sea.
The wind is blowing on the beach and it is alternately more and less cloudy. But it is dry and not cold at all today. The mini monsters enjoy looking for shells and wandering around to see what more treasure can be found. What a lovely ending to our weekend away!
We may not have done what we planned in advance, but the mini-monsters had so much fun. Staying in the magical little house with the rain shower and comfortable beds. Enjoy playing outside (in the rain) in the large garden and playing board games inside.
Finding a delicious breakfast on your doorstep. Eating delicious large pancakes with syrup and icing sugar in the cozy little house. The amazing beaches, so wide and the most beautiful with the North Sea at your feet! The Pluktuin and the Goat Farm were both great and lots of fun! It's really true: children don't need much to have fun, much less than we imagin!
Now it's really time to go home, Autumn Break is over but we take the found holiday treasures with us!
NB: A little more about Bed&Broodje
The cozy little 4-person house where we stayed was very pivate and nicely furnished with a handy little open kitchen. In the kitchen you will find everything you could need, a refrigerator with freezer, Nespresso coffee machine, induction hob and a small dishwasher, so handy! There are pans, crockery, cutlery and all basic groceries have been provided, including fruit, coffee cups, tea and even dishwasher tablets (watch the YouTube video).
A nice large wash stand, the shower room had a rain shower and heating. There were plenty of clean towels and whatever else you could need, including a hairdryer. Comfortable clean beds, good lighting everywhere, and even night lights for the kids. Central heating, WiFi and television, but also board games and toys, magazines and books everywhere. Candles for indoors and cheerful garden lighting, go-karts and bicycles in all sizes, outdoor play equipment and animals.
We had a great weekend here and so did the monsters, they would like to come back here. We did too because the surroundings are beautiful, the house very comfortable and really clean(!), the care was great and the hostess was sweet and attentive! We couldn't have had it better so highly recommended!
3+ bright shining stars for Bed&Broodje, from all of us!
