We've done it before and today we're doing it again, colouring eggs with vegetables because Easter is coming! To be honest, we don't eat the eggs. It is quite a long job and we prefer to eat a fresh, warm egg. But we have a lot of fun colouring the eggs and when they are ready they look so cheerful on the Easter breakfast table! That's what we doing it all for ;))
How to colour the eggs
Wash and cut all the vegetables.
Put the eggs on with cold water, cook for 10 minutes.
Boil the beets for 1 hour, or until soft.
Cook the spinach for 30 minutes, cooking to short turn your eggs grey.
Cook the red cabbage for 1 hour, or until soft.
Cook the carrots for 1 hour, or until soft.
Crush all the vegetables in the cooking water then sift it.
Pour the hot coloured waters in heatproof glasses.
Stir in each glass half a tablespoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of salt then put the eggs in the coloured water
The longer the eggs stay in the water the deeper the colour, we place the glasses overnight in the fridge
Allow the eggs to dry in the empty carton.
After overnight in the fridge the colours are still pastel!
The minimonsters love the eggs, but we make them even more beautiful
Place the flowers between kitchen paper and old newspapers.
Place a stack of heavy books on top of the newspapers.
Allow the flowers to dry for 1-2 nights, stick the flowers on the eggs.
When the modpodge has dried you brush a layer on the flowers.
Allow the Modpodge sealer to dry well then your eggs are ready!
Happy Easter!
