Today we read a lovely book about the meaning of colours for Muslims and it is called Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns. The book is written by Hena Kahn. Each colour has a four-line rhyme that explains the meaning of the colours in an understandable way to toddlers.
The book was very well received upon publication, critically acclaimed by reviewers, including Best Book of the Year at the Bank Street College of Education in 2012. In the meantime, Hena Kahn has written many beautiful children's books.
The beautiful illustrations by Mehrdokht Amini give the book a lot of charisma! Her style of drawing and use of colours give the book a feeling of warmth, love and cosiness. A feeling that every child recognizes.
The book is a great way to introduce young children to a worldwide religion. Which may not be theirs, but which creates understanding and respect for other people's faith. Much needed in a world where we all live together.
