Why do we find it important for everyone to read Groeten van Leo (Greetings from Leo) by Martine Letterie? It is a terrible but very important story. It tells you what the short life of Leo looked like through the eyes of Leo. It's such a beautiful, heartbreaking story because the author stays close to the truth.
She makes you feel how she thinks it felt for a little Jewish boy, to live in such an incredible scary time.
 
Luckily for Dutch kids today it is hard to imagine war in The Netherlands. Nevertheless it is great this book makes children realise what war does, especially now so many kids around the world live in war zones or refugee camps.

We don't think it's a good idea to let our mini monsters read the book by themselves. It really is a heartbreaking story! We prefer to read it together, but do read it! Here the book raises many difficult questions and emotions, so that you immediately get a good conversation. Although the madness of the persecution of the Jews and the response of the world at that time remains very difficult to explain. Three stars are really not enough feel the mini monsters.
