Through a nostalgic cardboard book about Curious George, the mini-monsters learn what Hanukkah means to Jewish children. Through objects with a very special meaning for the Festival of Light it is explained how Hanukkah is celebrated.
The German-American writer/illustrator H.A. Rey and his wife Margret Rey wrote the 7 original Curious George books together. They are long gone, but their son has taken over writing the books about Curious monkey George.
George must wait until evening and then he and his friend go on a visit, to celebrate Hanukkah. They wrap the presents and then they set off. The room is beautifully decorated and there is all kinds of good food, traditional for Hanukkah. Then the candles in the Menorah are lit and everyone sings a Chanukah song together. Then the children play the dreidel game.
A very beautiful part of Hanukkah is that you have to take care of people who are having a hard time, do something good for them. Bring good food or offer your help in any other way. But taking care of each other is important, always, but especially so in the time of Hanukkah.
3 bright shining stars for Curious George and Happy Hanukkah!
