The garden in July, August and September is a combination of flowers, cuttings (Sweet William and Indian Cress ), fruit & vegetables and inedible berries (for humans). So much diversity in the garden in this season. With copper tape around the vegetable garden, to protect the plants against very hungry slugs, we try again! We have zucchini, garlic, strawberries, all kinds of herbs, so we'll see!
We have grown the zucchini from seeds, the Cape garlic and the strawberries come from Stadstuinen Rotterdamse Munt and are therefore organic. We bought the autumn asters at Trompenburg Tuinen, just like the pansies.
In July
The Butterfly Bush has many visitors (search game, look closely).
We have two types of Clematis, spring and summer bloomers.
In june-july-august the hydrangea keeps on blooming!
The autumn asters are growing like weeds, but bloom in the Fall.
We have a lot of ladybugs, mostly of this orangy-yellow colour at the moment! There are a lot of aphids on the roses now and the ladybugs are especially fond of those! The snails are everywhere, from very high to low they hang in the plants. Hopefully it will stay with snails and fingers crossed the slugs will leave because of the copper band. The Peacock butterfly loves to land on the Butterfly Bush but also on the Hydrangea.
The roses continue to bloom, as long as you cut off the spent roses, new buds are being formed. The flowers of the Snowberry attract lots of bumblebees, it is very busy, but you can already see tiny berries appearing on the branches. Two pretty pictures of our home-grown Zucchini, on the point of flowering and the purchased Cape Garlic in bloom.
We will let you know later how the copper tape in the vegetable garden is working out, no matter how annoying the slugs are, we only fight them biologically!
We wish you a wonderful summer!
It is August
Lots of berries on the Elder, but the birds eat greedily too!
Luckily not all red currants grow in full sight of the birds ;)
So we quickly pick a bowl full, sharing equally!
If we want to try strawberries from the garden, we have to be quick!
The birds love to eat strawberries too.
We have a beautiful red Knotweed in bloom.
The Phlox, derived from the Greek word Flame, blooms in a beautiful white.
The cutting from the Indian Cress.
The lavender blooms.
There are raspberries in abundance.
We're chilling in the sun ;))
All summer long!
Now it's the end of September, autumn is on it's way!
The wind blows and it rains or pours a lot!
The strawberries are almost at the end.
The zuchinni is still blooming but not a veggie in sight!
The raspberry bush keeps giving al lot of raspberries.
We freeze the raspberries, we do have so much!
The spiders are eerily large.
Their spider webs sparkle in the rain.
The Buddleja has now finished flowering.
The snow berries a dazzling white.
The currant tree slowly get's it's autumn colours.
The berries on the Dwarf medlar are already turning orange.
Our little spruce is growing up.
The Skimmia is most beautiful in fall and winter.
The roses have hips in stead of flowers.
But the Snowballs are budding. :))
We love the changing of the seasons, after this warm summer autumn also will be wonderful again!
Have a lovely Autumn!
