Today there is a big celebration at the Taipei Zoo in Taiwan.
In 2008, the Taiwanese zoo received 2 young giant pandas as a gift from China: Tuan Tuan a boy and Yuan Yuan a girl. They immediately became the darlings of the Taiwanese zoo audience.
There were long queues for the Zoo because everyone wanted to see the special animals up close. When it turned out in 2012 that Yuan Yuan was pregnant, the whole country was in a festive mood and on July 6, 2013 the panda baby was born!
When it soon became apparent that new mother Yuan Yuan did not know how to properly care for the baby, the little panda was cared for behind the scenes, in an incubator. The zoo visitors could watch videos on YouTube every day, to see how the baby was doing.
The panda cub got a nice warm bed with a silicone hot water bottle, which cannot leak. It was weighed and measured just like human baby's and then given a bottle. Then sleep a lot because that's what all babies need the most to grow.
The baby panda doesn't have a name yet because it is still too young to tell if it's a boy or a girl. This will be announced later but there is already a lot of speculation about it. Because the three giant pandas are the favorites of the Taiwanese public, but the baby in particular!
