What do you need?
2 wooden cone dolls (6 cm)
1 wooden bead (12 mm), baby
piece of band aid tubing
tuft of sheeps wool (to fill)
white felt (baby Jezus)
dark blue and red felt (Mary)
dark brown and light brown felt (Joseph)
needle and matching colours yarn
4 wooden beads (10 cm)
a small twig
a long off white cotton thread
dark brown knitting cotton (hair, beard)
hobby glue
Today we make from Peg dolls Mary, the baby's mother, his father, Joseph and the little baby Jesus. When they are ready we can swiftly start on making a manger and the stable. The wooden peg dolls, beautiful woolen felt and other materials we like to buy at De Viltshop
How to make Mary, Joseph, and little Christmas baby Jesus
Download and print our pattern and start with Mary
Pin 2 of the patterns on felt and cut them out.
Pin the dress around Mary and sew the back of it closed.
Cut some long brown wollen hair and stick it on Maria's head.
Pin the sides of the mantle around Mary's head.
Saw the hood on tightly on both sides.
Sew two little hands on Mary's mantle.
Glue the edge of the hood to her head.
Mary is ready now!
How to make the Christmas Child
Sew the tubing closed on the underside and fill it with wool.
Sew the wooden bead on top, the baby's head.
Cut out a piece of felt like you see in the picture.
Fold the top corners of the felt to the inside.
Fold the long sides of the felt over each other.
Sew the baby blanket closed with tiny stitches.
Fold in the underside, sew it closed too.
How to make Joseph
- make Joseph's clothing in the same way you did Maria's
- tie a string around Joseh's waistand give him a staff (twig) to hold in his hand
- stick a beard of brown cotton on Joseph's chin
Braid three strings of cotton and tie off, on both sides.
Glue the cotton braid around Joseph's headscarf.
Now you have made the whole family! Tomorrow we will craft the stable, so the baby has a place to sleep
