Jewels of Strass is a beautifully written book by Carli Biessels. It is a story about a Jewish girl who has to go into hiding during the Second World War. What a nine-year-old understands of the story depends on the child, but you know your child best. We have read the story with emotion.
You can imagine how difficult it is for a little girl to be snatched from her world just like that. Without your Mum, Dad and your brothers step into a new life, not knowing what the future will bring. She is a brave girl, she takes it as it comes and in her head she makes compartments, in which she tidies everything up ...
Throughout the book you come across the black and white illustrations by Martijn van der Linden. His drawings are sober and befitting. A beautiful book!
