300g ready made puff pastry
4 free range +splash of water
150g Cheddar cheese
paprika, to sprinkle
Homemade tastes best and a batch of freshly baked cheese straws is quickly made. These are by Michel Roux Jr. The kids can nicely help with brushing on egg, sprinkle cheese and twisting straws.
How to make cheese straws
Half defrost the dough.
Lightly beat the egg yolks.
Grate the cheese.
Brush egg onto the dough.
Sprinkle on the cheese.
Press cheese on the egg.
Cover it with cling film.
Place the dough for 15 minutes into the refrigerator and preheat the oven to 200°C.
Sprinkle paprika onto the cheese.
Cut the dough into 1.5cm strips.
Twist the strips into straw shapes.
Place the straws on waxed paper on a baking tray then bake them in 15 minutes golden brown and crispy.
Allow the straws to cool on a wire rack.
