We make lanterns for Eid al Fitr, in pretty colours and decorated with faux gemstones. An adult does the cutting and gluing, the knife is too sharp for the kids and gluing is still a bit too difficult. The mini-monsters glue the windows on and decorate the lanterns with gems and glitter. In the dark the coloured light shines through the windows, the lanterns look beautiful in the dark!
How to make Eid al Fitr Lanterns
Print the PDF and cut out the patterns.
Cut the windows out of the cut out patterns.
Trace the shapes on coloured cardboard.
Fasten the pattern with paper clips, trace the windows.
We make 3 different lanterns, in a group they look better. Cut out all three lanterns and draw all the windows on
Also cut out the 3 bottoms.
The window are better cut out by knife.
By cutting by knife the windows look neat.
Cut out all the windows.
Score the glue strips on the bottoms.
Bend the strips upward.
Score the lanterns too.
We score all the lines using closed scissors, that works really well!
Fold all the lanterns in shape.
Are all the glue strips on the right side?
Choose the colours for the windows.
Cut the kite paper into strips.
Stick it behind the windows.
Stick the lanterns together.*
Stick the bottoms into the lanterns.
*Put paper clips on the glue strips and allow the glue to dry
Decorate the lanterns with gems and two are done already.
The third is ready too, we'll hang it up tomorrow.
Eid Mubarak!
