For Thanksgiving we make a little friend for the corn on the cob, the turkey. It is not coincidentally that the turkey is the national Thanksgiving symbol of the USA. It is a funny animal with beautifully coloured feathers. Although it is rather sad the turkey will be eaten at Thanksgiving dinner.
But a really fun craft to make. One that the little monsters can play with while we read a storey about the turkey. Because it is also a finger puppet, just like the corn cob!
How to make the Thanksgiving turkey
Print our pattern and cut out all the parts, from the paper
Pin the patter parts on the felt and cut them out.
Cut out all the feathers in the various colours.
Pin the patterns on felt, cut out the beak, feet and wattle.
This is wat your Turkey looks like when it's done, you're almost there.
But first let's see how to make the blanket stitch again, do you remember?
Insert the thread into the needle, tie a knot at the end of the thread.
Sew two stitches over each other, insert the needle in the same spot.
Insert the needle and pull on the thread but not all the way!
Leave a little loop.
Insert the needle through the loop.
Pull the tread and insert again.
Repeat until you're all around.
Tie off with three stitches on each other, tuck the thread away and cut it off
That blanket stitch went great, the body of your turkey is now ready
Only fill the head.
Tie on the wattle.
Sew the wattle on.
Tie on the beak.
Thread the beak on with tiny stitches.
Sew eyes and pupils on with tiny stitches..
Embroider feet on the bottom.
Now for something a bit tricky: sew from the center (the large feather) the feathers overlapping on the back
To prevent you from sewing the front and back together, insert a piece of thick cardboard
Neatly sew on the tail feathers.
Look at what a cute Turkey you've made!
Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving!
