Today we sew our own panda purse of fleece and felt. First we make all the white pieces then the black. Download and print our pattern then cut it out. Or draw directly on the fabric - using crockery for example - as in the picture.
How to make a Panda purse
Draw four large circles for the head (which we make double), draw two small circles for the body.
Cut 6 circles from the fabric. Draw two large circles and a small one on the fiberfill (the stuffing). Cut everything out on the lines, cut out the fiberfill just inside the lines.
Place fiberfill between the fleece, good side out.
Pin the circles closed with the filling in between.
Sew all around the circles in the blanket stitch.
The blanket stitch makes a nicely finished edge.
How to sew a blanket stitch
Tie on by sewing 3 stiches on top of each other.
Insert the needle in the fabric but pull the yarn until you have a little loop.
Stick the needle through the loop pulling the yarn tight.
Insert the needle again a 1/2 cm further to sew the next stitch.
Sew three white circles close, two large and one small. Put them aside.
Trace with a pencil the top of a glass on cardboard.
Do the same with the bottom of the glass and cut out the circles.
Fold a piece of fleece double then you cut a complete leg or ear.
Place the large circle on the black fleece and cut it out 4x, the small one 2x.
You now have 2 pieces of head, 1 body, 2 ears, 2 paws and 2 front paws.
Cut two black ovals for the eyes, cut fiberfill cirkels to fill the paws and ears.
The loose parts need to be pinned on each other and thus joined together.
Sew the ears on the head but sew them also on the outside.
Put the four feet on the body, sew the front and back as well.
Sew the patches on the head and cut felt eyes and a nose.
The head is the actual purse, so you can put little things in it, like lipgloss or keys.
Pin the panda body in between the head and sew on the inside back and front.
Leave the top open - as in the picture - sewing from pin to pin the head together.
Stick the eyes and the nose on the head with a tiny drop of glue.
Sew a red string inside the purse, red means good luck in China.
