After reading the funny picture book Coco kan het! (Coco can!) many times to the little monsters we want to surprise them with a homemade little Coco. You can choose to make it a finger puppet or a flying Coco.
Encouraged by Loes Riphagen - in the video accompanying the picture book - to make your own Coco, we start right away. We draw a pattern for you, that you can download and print. That makes the sewing a lot easier!
How to make a little Coco
Cut out the pattern parts.
Pin the pattern on the felt.
Cut out all as indicated.
Pin the parts together.
Sew the wings using the blanket stitch.
Pin the legs between the body.
Let Coco's tummy open in the middle.
- if you want to make a finger puppet, fill the front and back of the body and leave the tummy open
- to let your bird fly, fill Coco up completely and sew her tummy closed
Fill the front and back, leave the middle part open.
Fill up the beak and sew it on the head.
Sew one wing on the front of the body.
Sew the other wing on the back.
Cut 2 round eyes out of white and 2 pupils out of black felt
Stick the eyes on Coco's head.
Draw feathers on the wings, as in the book.
Sew a tube out of cotton, using the backstitch.
Turn it inside out and push it into the opening in the tummy.
Sew it in with tiny stitches and your Coco finger puppet is ready!
Wishing you lots of fun with Coco!
