In our Strong Women month we read a Little Golden Book with the life story of the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She didn't have an easy life, but that didn't stop her from having fun.
As a little girl she contracted polio. Because there was nothing that could be done about it at the time, she had to stay in bed for many months. Fortunately she had a lot of imagination, she drew pictures on the window, using her fingers.
When Frida was 18 years old she had a terrible accident that forced her to lie in bed for months. So she started painting again and would continue to do so for the rest of her life.
The attractive illustrations in this book are colourful and cheerful and match well with Frida Kahlo's style. Illustrator Elisa Chavarri made them, she now lives in the United States but is originally from Peru. A very pretty book with a very special story!
