What do you need?
twigs of various thicknesses
a saw and miter box or
an electric saw and drill
a small hand drill
pruning shears
hobby glue
a glue gun
The weather is good for January pruning, there is no night frost yet. After pruning, we cut thicker and thin branches in pieces for crafts or for the Autumn table. Both fun and we have more than enough cut off branches. Today a few are using a few to make deer in the snow.
Sawing by hand and making holes with a fret drill is do-able, but it requires patience and muscle power. If mom (or your dad) has an electric drill and saw it will be done quickly and without any effort!
How to make deer from wood
Saw pieces of wood of 5 (child) and 6 cm (mum and dad), for the body.
Drill holes on top of the wood to stick the neck in
Saw 3 pieces of 2.5 and 3cm and drill a hole on the underside.
Stick the head on the neck with a drop of glue in between.
Set the deer aside so the glue can dry and in the meantime cut thinner branches with pruning shears
Cut 2 whimsical twigs for each deer.
Dril 2 holes and stick in the antlers.
Cut legs for each deer, see what lenght looks good.
Stick the legs on the deer, using a glue gun.
We made daddy, mummy and a child but make as many as you like.
Now find a nice spot for your deer!
