As promised last week, here are 3 more insects made from egg cartons. The youngest mini-monster think it is such a fun craft, they can mess with the paint to their hearts content. We're happy too because we've kept stacks of egg cartons ;) so we cut the egg cups for them with pleasure. What we then make together is very beautiful!
How you make a caterpillar, a fly and a beetle
Cut the bottom of an egg carton in half.
Stick the two halves together, with the closed sides out.
Let the glue dry, with the use of paper clips.
Paint the caterpillar bright green.
Allow the paint to dry completely.
Paint black strips all over the caterpillar.
Let dry and paint on little dots of orange.
Stick 2 pipecleaner legs under each cup.
Let the glue dry completely and finally stick on the eyes.
How to make a fly
Cut out 2 egg cups joint together from an egg carton.
Paint he egg cups black and let dry.
Cut 6 legs out of pipecleaners, stick them on.
Place paperclips on the legs and let the glue dry.
Stick big eyes on the fly.
Cut out silver wings and stick them on.
How to make a beetle
Cut the 4 corner egg cups out of the carton.
Stick 2 times 2 cups together, let the glue dry.
Cut a styrofoam ball in halves.
Stick the halves on the cups and let the glue dry completely.
Paint the beetle green with golden accents.
Let the paint dry completely.
Cut legs and stick them on.
Stick tiny wobbly eyes on the beetle.
All your insects are ready, have fun with them!
The mini-monsters really like the insects, but Puk points out that we have forgotten a few of our garden insects. Where's the bumblebee? The butterfly, the snail, the dragonfly, the mosquito, the walking leaf ? Apparently we're not done yet! ;)) We can come up with a few ourselves too, the earthworm, the isopoda, the green shield bug and the earwig for example (brrr!) but the Dragonfly is on it's way and we make 3 more in February, the last ones!
Fortunately for me, it will be a little while before we meet them again in real life ;))
