Trompenburg Tuinen & Arboretum is definitely worth a visit in any season, our readers know that already! But in the fall, our young monsters can't wait for us to go, are the toadstools there yet? Every year during the fall break we visit the gardens - not difficult if you live in Rotterdam or the surrounding area - to search for the beautiful toadstools. This year we go a little early, Fall break is starting on Saturday
Only to look at them of course, we don't touch them! The animals that live in the Gardens do, but they are allowed to. They take small bites out of the caps, which the little monsters really enjoy seeing! We are just a little too early for red with white dots ones, so we'll go again next weekend :))
In the autumn sun the garden is extra beautiful. There are huge old trees and lots of types of radiant Dahlias, in various colours. Besides toadstools there is so much beauty to see here, as a city child you will be amazed!
A Heron is standing frozen near the ditch.
He catches a fish at lightning speed!
To quickly for us, the fish is swallowed!
Unfortunately too fast to capture it, the heron was already done
But where do we find all those beautiful mushrooms? Everywhere in the garden, but sometimes very well hidden! For example, you can find them in a hollow tree stump or under trees and bushes. They also grow against a tree trunk or just in a field. Sometimes you have to have eagle eyes to see them, but luckily our little monsters have those.
We see the most beautiful flowers in abundance, in all kinds of colours. The bumblebees are buzzing happily around, they are busy with it!
It is a wonderful afternoon for all, but now everyone is tired, we've walked a very long way without noticing! We've collected some beautiful leaves and also found some other Autumn treasures, which we may take home with us. If you look closely to the picture at home you see a tiny stowaway sliding away (bottom left) :))
There's a cozy terrace near the exit so we're going to sit down for a while to enjoy the lovely sunshine. First we eat an ice cream and then we go home. Next week it is still Autumn break. Then we'll be back to look for the red-and-white-dotted mushroom, what did you think! :))
