After The Brothers Lionheart we started right away in Ronia the Robber's Daughter, another classic by Astrid Lindgren from the early 80's. Again a fantasy book in wich two children are the main characters. This time a girl and a boy, kind of Julia and Romeo but different. That this book is still in demand may be clear, because in 2015 the twenty-sixth reprint was published. A great story never dies!
The black and white drawings by Ilon Wikland - she illustrated most of Astrid Lindgren's books - fit perfectly with the story. The rough but lovable robbers, the dark castle and the Swedish foresters - trolls, forrest gnomes and harpies really come to life for the readers. Just like main characters Ronja and Birk, who have a lot of freedom and experience all kinds of dangerous adventures in the woods. An unforgettable, gorgeous book!
3 for ever radiant shining stars for Ronia the Robbers Daughter!
