50g butter
50g flour
550ml milk
50g cane sugar
50ml brown rum
a drop of red food colouring
A traditional Dutch festive pudding is the chipolata pudding which is served with a delicious pink rum sauce. Today we make the sauce, tomorrow we start on the festive pudding.
This rum sauce is obviously not for children, the beautiful pink colour might be misleading. Give the kids some pink cream instead, also very yummy!
Melt the butter on low heat.
Weigh the right amount of flour.
Stir the flour in the butter.
Leave it to softly boil 2 minutes.
Stir in the milk in little bits.
Bring the sauce to the boil while stirring.
Leave it on the stove for 10 minutes to thicken.
I'm not a kitchen princess, even though I like to try out fun recipes with or without the kids. I always try my very best. But...my sauce keeps having lumps no matter how hard I stir. Never mind, quickly find the sieve :D
If you have lumps too sieve the sauce.
Put the sauce back on and stir in sugar&rum.
Stir a drop of red food colouring into the sauce.
Pour the sauce through a funnel into a sterilized bottle.
Close the bottle firmly and keep it in the fridge.
Serve the sauce in a cute jug with tomorrows chipolata pudding.
