Near snazzie is a big pool of water with bobbing ducks, geese, swans and moorhens. De residents like to feed the waterbirds little pieces stale bread with their kids. Usually a group of cheeky uninvited sea gulls come on down to join in.
They proof to be very clever animals because this time of year there are a lot of shellfish in the water. The gulls fish the shells up and drop them on the pavement. If the shell is not broken they beat it on the pavement until it opens and then they eat the shellfish.
Here's a lonely seagull flying over the water.
The pavement is littered with broken shells.
In the grass you can find complete shell halves.
We pick them up because on the inside is mother of pearl.
At home we scrub the shellfish remains and mud from the shells.
On the outside the clean shells look sort of nice.
But on the inside they are really beautiful, they shine in all colours.
From the intact shell halves we make a still life with some little candles to put on our workbench. We'll have to think about what to make with the broken pieces mother of pearl. We'll get back to you on this.
