A stick dolly is actually a very old-fashioned toy. So funny that kids of today - who grow up with all kinds of e and I gadgets - still have so much fun with it. We make a Chimney Piet, it's November after all ...
How to make a stick doll
Start with the chimney
Print the download then cut out the template neatly.
Trace the template on the cardboard.
Cut the chimney shape from the cardboard.
Copy the lines from the template on the cardboard with a ruler.
Rill the lines on the cardboard using closed scissors.
Now the chimney can be easily folded.
Measure a piece of styrofoam to fit 1/3 of the chimney.
The chimney will be reinforced with the styrofoam.
Cut the styrofoam with a crenelated knife.
Cut the styrofoam off to 1/4 up the chimney.
Make a hole in the middle with a knitting needle (10).
Glue the chimney together, the styrofoam included.
While the glue on the chimney dries we start making Piet
Clip on a clothes peg while drying.
Saw off a stick of 40 cm.
Glue a big, wooden bead on the stick.
Paint the bead the colour you like or give it chimney soot.
Stitch a piece of cloth 12x20 cm double on the short side.
String a thread all around the fabric.
Place the stick in the fabric and pull the thread.
Fold a strip cotton 5x15 cm in half and pin it together.
Pull a thread through the fabric on the long side.
Turn the fabric inside out and pull the thread tight.
Tie off, glue the collar and blouse on the stick.
Embellish the blouse with gold and sew on felt hands.
Wind a long cotton thread in the chosen colour.
Tie it off on top then cut it at the bottom.
Drip some glue in the opening on top of the bead then press in the knot of the hair with closed scissors.
Cut bangs then paint a face on the bead.
Trace a cirkel on the cloth and cut it out.
String a thread through the circle and stick a ribbon on.
Finish the stick-Piet
Stick the hat to the head of Piet and attach some small feathers. Glue a bead to the opposite side of the stick. Check if all parts are glued on properly.
Now we will attach Piet's jacket with some glue to the outside of the chimney so later on he can pop up.
Cut the chimney edge and cover it with stones cardboard.
Glue the jacket of Piet under the 'stone' edge and he is ready!
Happy Sinterklaas Eve!
