Puk wanted to participate in the workshop making a Sun Insect at Technical University Delft. So we registered online, paid for the tickets and today was the day! We left early for Delft because the Technical University is very big and we might have to search for the right place. Of course Puk doesn't want to be late!

It is a nice class with children of about the same age who are all interested in technology. There is also a nice, patient teacher and she first explains on the board what to do and then each child gets an instruction sheet. Everyone starts right away!

They parts are very interesting  Puk finds, a piece of transparent green perspex and a solar cell, which have to be placed on top of each other. Then a little vibrating motor has to be attachted to the belly of the creature, with double-sided tape. But do mind: do not stick tape over the holes!

The creature also needs wings (it can't fly but the wings look pretty) and those you cut out of coloured paper. But remember: do not cover the holes! Because finally the wires need to be soldered to the motor. The children love to solder themselves, and the sweet, patient teacher is on standby to help, when needed.

The sun creature is ready! Put it in the sun and it will walk, if it comes into the shade it will stand still. All the creatures have turned out beautiful and everyone is very happy with them. Puk can't wait to show it at home, he is very proud of his cool sun creature.

What a super fun workshop this was!

November is still a while away, but we want to give you this tip in advance:

Discover the Delft of Antoni and dive into the world of microbiology
November 3th, 2024 is Science Day at the Technical University in Delft
and this year the day is entirely dedicated to Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. He was born in Delft in 1632 and lived there until his death, in August 1723. Antoni van Leeuwenhoek was interested in astronomy, mathematics, physics and science from a very young age. In later life he became best known as the discoverer of micro organisms, with a built a microscope himself.
