It's almost Divali and we are reading a lovely picture book that is called Shubh Diwali and it tells us all about this beautiful celebration of light. Shubh Diwali is a wish, which means Happy Diwali! in Hindi and people are wishing it each other when it is celebrated. The book is written by Chitra Soundar and the cute illustrations are made by Charlene Chua.
Everyone helps to clean the house, before the celebtations begin. There is alot of delicious cooking going and and plenty of it. The house is beautifully lit and decorated, both inside and out, and Rangoli are made in front of the door, figures made of coloured sand. The children receive gifts and games are played with them.
Lots of fireworks are lit; it's one big celebration that lasts a full five days! At the back of the book, you can read all about the meaning of each day of the festival. Such a fun and educational book! (This book is unfortunately not translated into Dutch!).
