What do you need?
a bamboo pole (garden center)
a small hand drill & screw eyelets
nylon thread
a large paper clip
a plastic spool (of ribbon)
a wooden bobbin
a wooden bead
binding wire and iron wire
2 plastic caps (from yogurt jars)
some aluminum foil
black insulation tape
Saw off a piece of the bamboo pole until it has the desired length.
Drill holes and screw in the eyelets, we used 6.
Bend open a large paperclip to be the fish hook.
Cut off a piece and twist an eyelet on the end of the paperclip.
Put the rod aside for now then you start on the reel.
Prick 2 holes in the spool and 1 in each lid.
Lace a oiece of wire through the spool.
Wrap the lids in aluminum foil.
Glue the bobbin on the inside of one lid.
Stick the wire through lid and bobbin.
Bend the wire around the bobbin.
Glue the spool to the inside of the lid.
Cut off the wire with plenty of length.
Glue the second lid on the reel.
Paint the bead black, allow the paint to dry.
Bend the wire using pliers in the shape of a handle (see the picture below).
Glue the bead on the end of the handle.
Wind a thick layer of nylon thread around the spool.
Twist the thin wire arouround the rod, stick in the ends.
Put glue between the rod and the reel using the glue gun.
How to finish the fishing rod
Wrap a handgrip of black insulating tape around the rod.
String the nylon thread through the eyelets and tie on the 'hook'.
Hang your present on the fishing hook and your rod is ready.
Now for the hard part: make a funny poem about sport fishing! ;)
